Cordell “Corky” Steelman
August 13, 1938 - January 22, 2015

Cordell “Corky” Steelman, 76, passed away from lymphoma on January 22, 2015 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston surrounded by his family. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Van Meter Legion Hall, 910 Main Street, Van Meter, Iowa.

Cordell was born in Charles City, Iowa, on August 13, 1938 to Lester and June Steelman. On March 30, 1956, he married Janet Emehiser. They owned and operated Steelman Rides until 1977, after which Cordell drove a truck for Ned Freestone and TMC. In 1988, they started their own business, Steelman Trucking, which they operated until his retirement in 2005. After his retirement, he continued driving part-time for local companies, mainly Quinn Trucking in Adel.

In his spare time, Cordell enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother and friend.

Cordell is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Cindy (Larry) Stepp; sons: Pat (Nancy Powelson) Steelman, Scott (Nicci) Steelman, and Steve (Kim) Steelman; mother, June Steelman; brother, Gary (Mary) Steelman; sisters: Judy (J) Sims, and Jean (Jim) Siegrist; grandsons: Jason (Sheiry) Slycord, Nathan (Jennifer) Steelman, Jacob Steelman, and Dylan Steelman; granddaughters: Jessica (Joe) McDonald, Stephanie (Ron) Wine, Nakia (Dave Stonehocker) Steelman, and Heather (Doug) Poggensee; step grandson, Joe (Laura) Jolesch; step granddaughters: Jennifer (Joe) Arceneaux, and Julie (James) Rice; great-grandsons: Devon Slycord, Sebastion Steelman, Dane Steelman, Ayden Poggensee, Brock Wine, and Fisher Stonehocker; great-granddaughters: Ryann Slycord, Taylor McDonald, Sabrina McDonald and Lyberty Steelman, and step great-granddaughter, Anais Arceneaux.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lester; daughter-in-law, Lori and his parents-in-law, Clifford and Mildred Emehiser.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family or to the charity of your choice.
