Obituary for Mary Tonn
Mary Tonn, 88, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 9th ST. Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City
According to Mary’s wishes, there will be no services. Private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Sunnyside Memory Gardens.
Mary Jean (Marker) Tonn, the daughter of Harry and Marguerite (Metz) Marker, was born on April 18, 1927 in Rockford, Iowa, the second of eight children. She was raised in Charles City and attended the Charles City Schools. On July 29, 1943 she married Donald R. Klock in Charles City. He was killed in action in the South Pacific on August 21, 1944.
On November 2, 1946 she married Donald L. Tonn in Mason City. The couple made their home in Charles City. Don passed away on March 26, 1975.
Mary loved putting puzzles together, crocheting, and reading western stories by Zane Grey and Louis L’Amour.
Living family members include her son, Bill (Chris) Tonn of Charles City, daughter Linda (Mike) Selvig of Nora Springs; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Deb Tonn of Nashua; sisters, Maxine Farrell of Charles City and Beverly Hartwell of San Diego, CA; sister-in-law Deloris Marker of Longview, WA; and special cousin Lois Bull of Machesney Park, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; sons Donald Klock and Michael Tonn; two brothers, Floyd and Clyde Marker; one sister Shirley Hornberg and special friend Jess Palanco.
