Dorothy Catherine Elizabeth Sprau

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Dorothy Catherine Elizabeth Sprau, 88, Nora Springs, died Thursday, September 17, 2015, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Nora Springs.

Per her wishes, no formal service will take place, and a private burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, 11495 265th Street, Mason City.

Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street NE, Mason City, is in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy Catherine Elizabeth Sprau was born on February 23, 1927, in Woden, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Amelia (Schwab) Schleuger. Dorothy graduated from Britt High School in the class of 1944. She was united in marriage to Robert Sprau on May 5, 1946, in Mason City. Robert preceded her in death in 1990.

Dorothy was a teller and head cashier at First State Bank in Nora Springs for about 30 years. She retired in 1986.

She enjoyed doing needlepoint and shared much of her handiwork with her family. She especially enjoyed her best friend, Jesse, her Miniature Schnauzer.

Dorothy is survived by her niece, Sheila Couchman; her great-niece Nikki May; and great-nephews, Robert and Kevin Plummer. Also surviving are great-great-niece, Corey May, and great-great-nephew, Amory May. There are many other nieces and nephews also surviving.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Amelia (Schwab) Schleuger; her husband, Robert; sister, Marcella Walling and brother, Donald Schleuger.
