Neal Reetz, 74, of Colwell, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A memorial service for Neal Reetz will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 at First Wesleyan Church in Charles City. Mark Jenkins will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will take place one hour prior to the memorial service at the church on Friday.

Neal Carrol Reetz, the son of Dale and Minnie (Ericson) Reetz, was born in Colwell on December 2, 1940. The family moved to San Jose, California during World War II and they returned to Churchtown, Iowa, when Neal was a teenager.

He attended school in Waukon, graduating from Waukon High School. Neal continued his education with auto mechanic's training and worked for Lamb Chevrolet in Prescott, Arizona for 30 years. He returned to Iowa in 1985 and was united in marriage to Sharon Zimmer on February 14, 1986 in Colwell. The couple made their home south of Colwell on their acreage where Neal turned an old grainery into Sharon's castle.

Neal was a member of the Men's Club that met at First Wesleyan Church. He loved the outdoors and would spend countless hours canoeing, camping and traveling. Neal was a good gardener and there was never an appliance he could not fix for Sharon. He was always there for others and would be the first in line to lend a helping hand when needed.

Living family members include his wife, Sharon; children: Laureen (Patrick) Byrne of Clear Lake, Lynnette (Charles) Mackey of Charles City, Barry Mackey of Clarksville, Elizabeth (Chad) Perkins of Alta Vista, Allan Reetz, Roxanne Hanover, Melissa Gonzalez, Eric Reetz and Nathaniel Reetz all of Kansas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; children: Tom Conway, Nolan Reetz, Amanda Reetz and Kimberly Stevenson; grandson, Zachary Conway; and his brother, Virgil Nyle Reetz.
