Clyde "Sonny" Shirley, 73, of Nora Springs, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

According to his wishes, there will be no services.

Clyde "Sonny" Leroy Shirley was born June 15, 1942 to Clyde and Madeline (Coppernoll) Shirley in Charles City. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1960 where he lettered in multiple sports and was a state champion wrestler. In 1977, he was united in marriage to Regina Koenigsfeld for 24 years. From this union they had three sons. He also had a son from a previous marriage. Over his lifetime Sonny was employed at Oliver, Hydrotile, FS and L & J Welding.

Sonny was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed raising horses and coon dogs. He especially loved fishing and coon hunting. Sonny spent multiple years coaching little league baseball. Family and humor were also very important to him.

Sonny is survived by his four sons: Troy Shirley of Wisconsin, Lance (Sara) Shirley of Georgia, Patrick (Linda) Shirley of Charles City and Dan (Ashley) Shirley of Nora Springs; five grandchildren: Camden, Mia, Ambree, Rianen and Ali. Other living family members include his siblings: Doris, Melinda, Robert, Janice, Pat, Roger, Sandy and Linda; along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Mike; and sisters: Deloras, Sandra, Cheryl and Ann.
