Samuel Wesley Wagner – June 9, 1848 – December 14, 1927

Samuel Wesley Wagner was born in Pennsylvania in 1848. At seven years of age he came with his parents to Stephenson County, Illinois where he lived for several years and was married to Miss Rosa Klontz.

They came to Floyd County, Iowa, in 1881. In 1902 they moved to Westport, Minnesota, but returned again to Marble Rock, where they have since resided. To this union seven children were born.

Mr. Wagner is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Stock and Mrs. Bessie Shultz, of Marble Rock; four sons, Joseph, of Bristow; Will of Marble Rock; Frank, of Carlos, Minnesota; and Lewis, of Dubuque.

All were present at the funeral except Frank, who was unable to be present. There are also 17 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Mr. Wagner had been in poor health for several years and died of pneumonia at his home on Beelar Street, Wednesday morning, December 14th, aged 79 years, 6 months and 5 days.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church at Marble Rock, Friday afternoon. The scripture reading and prayer were by the pastor, Rev. A. R. Coover, while the sermon was preached by Rev. L. W. Inman, a long-time friend of the family. Appropriate selections were sung by Mrs. Lucy Moore and Mrs. Mary Barber, accompanied by Mrs. S. W McNinch. Interment was in the West Side Cemetery.
