William Martin Carbiener – March 7, 1877 – May 16, 1950

Charles City – Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home for William M. Carbiener, 72, who died Tuesday afternoon at his home, 907 East Clark Street. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

He had been in failing health the last two years and had been bedfast five months. He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage Sunday morning.

He had been in business here more than 50 years. He opened a bicycle shop in 1898 and operated a used furniture store in connection with the shop. The store was for many years located at 417-19 North Main Street. In recent years he had operated his shop at the rear of his home.

He married October 13, 1897 to the former Vera Evelyn Leaman. Mrs. Carbiener died May 23, 1933.

He leaves a son, Fire Chief Marvin Carbiener, three daughters, Mrs. Harlow Meusel, Mrs. Sam Twining, and Mrs. Thelma Shiflet, all of Charles City; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one brother, Fred Carbiener, Waterloo, and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Mills, Marble Rock. Four brothers, three sisters and his parents preceded him in death.
