SHIRLEY ARHART DIES THURSDAY AT AGE OF 7
DIES OF PNEUMONIA AFTER ONLY WEEK’S ILLNESS
SURVIVED BY PARENTS AND EIGHT BROTHERS AND SISTERS
FUNERAL SUNDAY

Marble Rock, March 15 – Funeral services for Shirley Irene Arhart were held at 2:30 at the home Sunday, with Rev. Van Benschoten of the Baptist church and Rev. Sheldon of the Methodist church conducting the services. The casket bearers were four cousins, Judson, Miron, Herman and Eugene Ackley. Burial was in West Side Cemetery.

Shirley Irene Arhart, daughter of Estella and Wayne Arhart, was born at the home place on January 30, 1931 and died March 10, 1938 at the age of 7 years, 1 month and 10 days.

She attended the Baptist Sunday school with her brothers and sisters in Marble Rock and the rural school for 2 years.

She had always been a strong and healthy little girl. On Thursday morning, she was taken ill with pneumonia. The following Thursday afternoon she was taken to the Cedar Valley hospital where she died at 11:10 o’clock that evening.

She is survived by her parents, eight brothers and sisters, namely, Elinore, Ila, Donald, Claire, Marvel, Deloris, Charles Erwin, and Nola Faye, all at home, her maternal grandmother, Leota Allen, her paternal grandmother, Nellie Arhart, two uncles, seven aunts and hosts of other relatives and friends.
