Obituary for Margaret "Jean" Eugenia Emmel

Margaret “Jean” Eugenia Emmel, 84, of Charles City, Iowa, died on Monday, May, 4, 2015 at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt Street, Charles City.

Jean was born on June 25, 1930, in St Cecilia, Iowa, to Arthur and Mary (Daly) Sweet. She graduated high school and then earned her two year college degree to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Jean met the love of her life Marvin at a dance when she was just a teenager.

The couple united in marriage on November, 11, 1948 in Austin, Minnesota. Together Jean and Marvin made a living through buying and selling motels and various other properties. They were not only life partners but also business partners.

They moved 50 times around Iowa, buying motels and then fixing them up for resale. Jean also worked for Nora Springs Care Center at one time as a LPN. One of the last businesses Jean and Marvin purchased was a Service Station that they owned and operated for 15 years in Charles City. Despite many years of moving around, the couple always made their way back “home,” which was Charles City.

For enjoyment Jean loved to oil paint and draw. She was an excellent artist and had her work shown at several art shows where she won many ribbons and awards. Jean was a hard worker her whole life and very supportive of her husband in all aspects of their life together. She will continue to be loved and missed dearly by her family.

Those left to cherish her memory includes her husband of 66 years, Marvin Emmel of Charles City; daughters, Nancy Hansen of Dorchester, Nebraska, and Janet (Joe) Eubank of Norfolk, Virginia; one sister; grandchildren, Heather (John) Busboom and Steven (Heather Wiles) Hansen; and unborn great-grandson, Brody Hansen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Ercel Hansen; four sisters and one brother.
