NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Mary Beth Bass, 78, of Nora Springs, formerly of West Union, died Friday, May 1, 2015, at Nora Springs Care Center.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 503 E. South St., Manly, with Pastor Don Preston officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

An open memorial has been established in Mary's name.

Obituary for Mary Beth Bass

Mary Beth Bass, 78 of Nora Springs, formerly of West Union, died Friday, May 1, 2015, at Nora Springs Care Center.

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 503 E. South St., Manly, with Pastor Don Preston officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

An open memorial has been established in Mary’s name.

Mary was born January 23, 1937, the daughter of Harlo and Irene (Bowman) Lamphier in Galena, Illinois. She grew up and attended school in Fayette, Iowa, graduating from Fayette High School. She married James Bass on December 28, 1957, in Grace Lutheran Church, Fayette.

Mary stayed at home raising her children before going to work as a certified nurse’s aide for Fayette County Public Health. She enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, and cooking. Some of Mary’s other favorite pastimes included playing cards with family and friends, and seeking out garage sales. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchild.

Mary is survived by her husband, James Bass of Nora Springs, formerly of West Union; four daughters, Dianna Bass of Rochester, Minnesota, Melissa Bass of Mason City, Pam Bass of Rochester, Minnesoa, and Janette Zell of West Union; two grandchildren, Kristin Bass and Austin Zell; a great granddaughter, Halle Bass; and a sister, Bonnie Fry.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Donna Zerba.
