John William Whitesell – August 23, 1849 – May 26, 1940

WHITESELL RITES ARE CONDUCTED
SERVICES ARE HELD IN NORA SPRINGS FOR OLDEST ROCK GROVE MAN

Nora Springs – Funeral services for John William Whitesell, 90, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Martin-Sheckler Funeral Home with the Rev. Stanley Haynes, pastor of the Christian Church here, officiating.

“The Old Rugges Cross” and “In the Garden” were sung by Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Moody with Mrs. E. E. Chenoweth, accompanist.
Pallbearers were A. J. Quimby, Harry Benedict, C. D. Ellis, Wilmer Fingalsen, Henry Brackel and Willard Durant. Burial was in Rock Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Whitesell was born in St. Talbot Place, Ontario, Canada, and died at his home in Rock Grove Sunday.
He was married to Flora Walker of Clear Lake September 4, 1880. She preceded him in death many years ago.

He is survived by a son, Roy, and daughter, Nellie Whitesell; one brother, C. A. Whitesell, all of Nora Springs, and by one grandson, Hugh Whitesell of Mason City.

Mr. Whitesell was the oldest person in Rock Grove Township.
