Cordelia (Wilde) Waters – March 30, 1865 – July 31, 1962

OLDEST RESIDENT OF NORA SPRINGS DIES AT 97

Nora Springs – Nora Springs’ oldest resident, Mrs. W. S. Waters, 97, died Tuesday at the Nora Springs Nursing Home, where she had been a patient since July 1960.

The funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday in the Christian Church. The Rev. Burnell Krager, Des Moines, her former pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Rock Grove Cemetery, south of Nora Springs. The Sheckler Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Waters, nee Cordelia Wilde, was born in Illinois March 30, 1865, to Charles and Alice Stephens) Wilde. She came to Iowa with her family when she was three and lived at Charles City.

She was married to Winfield S. Waters in Charles City October 4, 1885, and three children were born to them.

Mr. Waters died in January 1937. One son, Guy Waters, died in October 1955.

A long-time member of the Nora Springs Christian Church, she had been active in the church and its various affiliated organizations as long as her health permitted.

She is survived by a son, Frank Waters, Mason City; a daughter, Mrs. E. A. (Alice) Tressel, Fremont, Nebraska; a sister, Mrs. H. L. Douglas, Rochester, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
