Bernice Tapley, 86, of Elma, died March 14, 2015, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
Funeral services for Bernice Tapley will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hauser Funeral Home. Pastor Robert Scheurer from Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Marble Rock will officiate. Burial will be held in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.
Friends may call an hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Bernice Lucile Christensen Mackamul Tapley was born December 18, 1928, the daughter of Marshall and Irma (Shannon) Christensen, in Floyd County. She graduated from Floyd High School at Floyd.
Bernice was united in marriage to Lester Mackamul in 1947. They later divorced. On June 7, 1972, she was united in marriage to Thomas Tapley at Las Vegas, Nev. Bernice and Tom were proprietors of Tom and Bernie's Markets in Marble Rock, Ionia and Elma from 1979 to 1988. From 1992 to 2005 she worked at Klobassa Jack and Jill at Elma. She could out work anyone around her. Her interests included gambling, gardening and watching television. She always enjoyed a cup of coffee with her friends. Bernice was always there to help serve the community in many various ways.
Living family members include her three sons, Bruce, David and Gary Mackamul; one daughter, Julie Manning; a step daughter, Nancy (Jim) Mundell and a sister, Dora Schrage.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas, in 1990; three brothers, Lyle, James and Donald Christensen; and a sister, Thelma Logan.
