MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - William R. Borchard Sr., 90, of Marble Rock, died March 2, 2006, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City, Iowa.

He was born on November 16, 1915, in rural Scott Township, Floyd County, son of Richard and Martha Zitzow Borchard. He married Doris A. Fisher on August 15, 1947, in Bemidji, Minnesota. She died May 16, 1994.

Mr. Borchard graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1932, then assisted in the family farming operation. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in Europe, Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He resumed farming in Scott Township and had farmed in the Greene and Marble Rock area until 1971. He also was a crop adjuster for Farm Bureau for 13 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis A. Sweet of Asheville, N.C.; two sons: William R. Jr. (Donna) of Marble Rock and Roger J. (Dovie) of Oxford, Ala.; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Carol Rohwedder of Greene and Irene Kiehn of Fort Lupton, Colorado.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Miller and Helen Pooley; and two brothers, Charles and John; and a granddaughter.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Marble Rock, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford. Graveside military honors will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard Post 4868 of Clear Lake. Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene, is in charge of arrangements.
