Earl Elbridge Oakes – August 16, 1865 – June 6, 1943

EARL E OAKES, 77, SUCCUMBS
FUNERAL RITES TO BE TUESDAY AFTERNOON

Earl E. Oakes, 77, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Gonser, 12 Eleventh Street Northeast, about 4 o’clock Sunday morning following a short illness. He had resided in Mason City and Clear Lake for the past 35 years.

Mr. Oakes was born August 16, 1865, at Belvidere, Illinois. He had been custodian at the Outing Club at Clear lake for the past 18 years.

Surviving are his wife, one son, Leon, LeGrand, Iowa, two daughters, Mrs. George E Bannett, Hayward, California,, and Mrs. Gonser, Mason City, and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Lance Oakes, who was killed in action in France in 1918.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the chapel of the McAuley and Son Funeral Home. Burial will be at the marble Rock Cemetery. The McAuley and Son Funeral Home is in charge.
