#2: News StoryMASON CITY, IOWA - A Rockford woman was killed in a six-vehicle crash on the Avenue of the Saints during a snowstorm Wednesday.
Amy Elizabeth Hild, 27, was driving east when a semitrailer hit the back of her car about 11:30 a.m. on Highway 18. It happened during a chain-reaction crash about four miles east of Mason City.
She was declared dead at the scene.
Hild’s car was hit when several vehicles slowed down to merge into the left lane. Troopers had closed the right lane for an earlier crash.
The impact caused Hild’s car to spin. It was hit a second time by the same semitrailer, according to a crash report.
A passenger in another vehicle, Bedrije Ademi, 47, of Mason City, was taken to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City. Her condition wasn't immediately available Wednesday night.
The crash was still under investigation Wednesday night. Officials say weather likely was a factor in the crash.
The Mason City area received 4 to 6 inches of snow. Much of the region was blanketed in several inches.
"(The Avenue) had snow covering on the inside lane, so as cars and semis would kick that snow up it would cause whiteout conditions in places," said State Patrol Sgt. Dana Knutson. "So people would move to pass and they'd whiteout other cars."
