DENVER, IOWA - Leonard Orville Campbell, 87, of Denver, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo.
He was born August 1, 1920, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Orville L. and Pearl Devereaux Campbell. He married Alice Eicher in Dubuque on May 2, 1959.
Mr. Campbell graduated from Stanhope High School, Stanhope, in 1938. He was stationed in the South Pacific as a U.S. Air Force staff sergeant, taking part in sea and air rescues during World War II. He then attended the University of Iowa and earned a bachelor's degree in commerce. He worked for 38 years for the Social Security Administration and before his retirement served as a field rep.
Survived by his wife; two sons, Jeff (Melanie) of Lonsdale, Minnesota, and Doug (Helen) of Loretto, Minnesota; and four grandchildren.
Preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Swedlund.
Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Denver, with private inurnment in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, Waverly, American Parkinson Disease Association, or American Heart Association.
