John "Jack" Thomas Batty, the son of T. Edw. and Frances (Munshower) Batty, was born July 9, 1941. He attended school in Rockford, graduating from Rockford High School. Jack was a multi-sport athlete playing football, basketball and holding district and conference records in the high jump and pole vault for a number of years. After graduation, Jack went to the University of Iowa before transferring to Drake University to finish his college education. Once he received his BA in Business, Jack began working at Banker's Life Insurance which later became Principal. He worked in Des Moines, Seattle and Portland before retiring and returning to Rockford.
Jack was married to Janice Katcher and this union was blessed with son, Jeff and daughter, Jackie. He later married Judy DeStephano. Jack loved being outside and enjoyed anything that had to do with the outdoors; hunting, fishing and golf (which he played until he wasn't able) were just a few of his favorite activities. He was also a huge Iowa Hawkeye and Minnesota Vikings fan, and supported them no matter what.
Living family members include his two children: Jeff (Jennifer) Batty of Mount Pleasant and Jackie (Rich) Gould of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; six grandsons: Javin Egli, Jared and Colin Batty, Aiden, Damien and Owen Gould; sister-in-law, Mari Batty of Rockford; nephew, Jason (Amy) Batty of Olathe, Kansas, and their daughters Skylar, Brooke and Reagan; special friend and caregiver for the last several years, Julie (Danny) Miller of Rockford and their children Dean (Holly) Nicholson and Dustin Nicholson; along with numerous cousins, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dennis Batty.
The family would like to thank the staff at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home for the love and care they have given Jack over the last four years.
