Kathleen Kay Jacobs Tumilson was born March 4, 1945, at Bristow, the daughter of John and Leona (Lacour) Jacobs. She graduated from Rockford High School in 1963 and from St. Lukes School of Nursing in 1966. Kathy was a dedicated RN and spent her career caring for others working at the Osage Clinic, Rockford Medical Clinic, Good Shepherd Nursing Home, and Cerro Gordo County Health Department.
She retired in 2011 after 45 years of dedicated public service. Kathy was a member of the Rockford United Methodist Church and was someone who let her faith shine in everything she did. Kathy was happiest when she was helping others and served on various church boards, church circle, youth mentor, delivered Meals on Wheels and was a Floyd County 4-H Leader. She was also involved in various clubs including Young Moms, Red Hat Society and Sweet Adelines.
Family always came first with her life revolving around attending every activity her children participated in and spent her retirement enjoying most of her grandkids activities as well. After the death of her son SOC (SEAL) Jon T. Tumilson, she proudly dedicated herself as a Gold Star Mom by preserving his memory through serving as board member of 3 Minutes Out, Inc., speaking to various organizations to share Jon's story and making sure our men and women in uniform were honored and remembered for their service. She proudly wore the title of "Mama T" to all those lives she touched.
Living family members include her husband, George Tumilson of Rockford; two daughters, Kristie Pohlman of Cedar Rapids and Joy McMeekan of Taylor Ridge, Illinois; adopted daughter, Torrie (Jeff) Ulfig of Virginia Beach, Virginia; six grandchildren, Kobey, Kamryn and Kaitlyn Pohlman and Kelsi, Sydney and Isabella McMeekan; and three siblings, John (Norma) Jacobs, Jr. of Manson, Barb (Steve) Thiher of Cedar Rapids and Deb Weiss of Kemp, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, SOC (SEAL) Jon Thomas Tumilson; and a son-in-law, Scott McMeekan.
In lieu of flowers please direct memorials to the family.
