CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Mary Manning, 94, of Charles City died Saturday, January 31, 2015, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Mary A. Manning, 94, of Charles City, died Saturday, January 31, 2015, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A memorial service for Mary A. Manning will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Mary Alene (Cummings) Manning was born January 1, 1921, in Bassett, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse and Pearl (Bonsall) Cummings. She graduated from Colwell High School in 1939. On November 8, 1939, she was united in marriage to Donald J. Manning. They farmed near Colwell, retiring in 1979, and then moved to Charles City. Mary was a member of the Deerfield Community Club and the Colwell Culture Club. For much of her life, Mary was an active member of the Colwell United Church of Christ and after retiring, she transferred her membership to the First Congregational Church of Charles City. In later years, she became a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Mary was an avid baker, and shared cookies, brownies, and cakes with her family and friends.

Living family members include her two children: Allen Manning and his wife Betty of Charles City and Lois Manning of Bloomington, Minnesota; two grandchildren: Mark Manning and his wife Lainie of Charles City and Carmen Manning and her husband Mark Mathias of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; seven great-grandchildren: Matthew Manning of Dubuque, Taylor Manning of Waterloo, Cassidy Beatty of Floyd, Nate Manning of Charles City, and Madeleine, Kate, and Jack Mathias of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald in 2007; two sons: David and Dean Manning both in infancy; a sister, Maxine Bauer; and three brothers: Donald Cummings, Dale Cummings, and Lester Cummings.
