Obituary for Dorothy Jean Coates

Dorothy Jean (Warye) Coates, 89, Nora Springs, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

A celebration of her life will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 18, 2015, at the Nora Springs United Methodist Church, 202 North Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with Pastor Wendy Johannesen officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Sunday at the church. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Rock Grove Cemetery, rural Nora Springs.

Dorothy Jean (Warye) Coates was born on June 3, 1925, in Nashua, the daughter of Lew Wallace and Hattie Edith (Tracy) Warye. She graduated from Nashua High School and attended the University of Iowa. On December 16, 1944, she married her high school sweetheart, Loyal Burnett Coates. They moved to Nora Springs in 1946.

Dorothy was active in Easter Star (Past Worthy Matron), and enjoyed her family, gardening, bridge, traveling, and numerous outdoor activities.

She is survived by her sister, Ruth (Glenn) Clark of Des Moines; son, Kim (Pat) Coates of Elkhart, IN; daughter Kathy (Dewey) Koch of Nora Springs; four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Loyal; and a brother, Russell Warye.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to give a memorial may consider contributions to Hospice of North Iowa.
