Gilman Irving (Irvine) Norby was born July 31, 1896 at Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa to Iver Halsteinsen Norby and Gustava Karina Hendrikson, the youngest of their four children.

He was baptized on October 17, 1896 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

Gilman Norby died December 3, 1896 at Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa and was buried at Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Meroa, Iowa.
