CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Dr. Robert “Bob” Baron, 84, of Charles City died Monday, December 22, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus in Rochester, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City at a later date.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, December 29, at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

The Hauser Funeral Home, 641-228-2323, in Charles City is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hauserfh.com .

Robert “Bob” Baron

Dr. Robert “Bob” Baron, 84, of Charles City, died Monday, December 22, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services for Bob Baron will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City at a later date.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Robert Richard Baron, the son of Richard and Goldie (Skeie) Baron, was born May 15, 1930 in Denhoff, S.D. He began his education in Denhoff, but graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School in Fargo, N.D. Bob continued his education at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. and received his masters and PhD from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. He served his country in the Army from 1952-1954.

On August 4, 1957, Bob was united in marriage to Sue McDowell in Manhattan, Kan. He worked for two years at a Research Farm in Caldwell, Idaho before moving to Charles City in 1961. Bob was in research, and later government relations, at Salsbury Laboratory in Charles City from 1961 until his retirement in 1993.

Bob was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, the YMCA and the Floyd County Historical Society. He volunteered numerous hours in both his church and community for many years. Bob enjoyed coffee time with friends, wood carving, coffee, vegetable gardening, coffee, reading, bird watching and more coffee with friends. Bob ran over a dozen marathons in the last several decades and took pride in keeping himself in great shape. Central to his life was his family and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren.

Living family members include his wife of 57 years, Sue of Charles City; four children: Mark (Karen) Baron of Rockland, Maine, Paul (Kelly) Baron of Burnsville, Minn., Rachel Baron of Des Moines and Sarah (David) Sullivan of St. Paul, Minn.; seven grandchildren: Jessica, Anna, Isaac, Megan, Tim, Nolan and Brady; his beloved cat, Sophie; along with other family members and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Elaine.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Charles City YMCA and/or the Floyd County Historical Society.
