Olaus Norby was born at Black Earth, Dane County, Wisconsin, October 14, 1860, and at the age of 8 he came to Mitchell county, Iowa, with his parents. They located on the old Norby homestead in Cedar Township.

On this place Olaus spent his childhood and youth until his marriage to Sigrid (Sarah) Fosholdt, of this community on July 1, 1887. Immediately after their marriage, they located on their farm in Rock Grove Township, Floyd County, where through diligence and God's blessing they established a beautiful home. To this union three children were born.

Besides his wife, the following children survive: Tillman, who lives on the home place, and Mrs. Joseph (Martha) Hagen, of Osage. A son, Sigurd Harloff, preceded his father in death November 1, 1924. The following brothers and sisters also survive: Lauritz and Carl of this community; Edward of Parshall, North Dakota; Mrs. Anton (Marie) Lundene and Mrs. Nick (Thea) Johnson, both of Osage; and Mrs. Martin (Elizabeth) Klemesrud of Grand Forks, North Dakota. There are also seven grandchildren surviving.

In the fall of 1919, the Norbys moved to Osage, where they have since lived.

Mr. Norby was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and since coming into this community has always been a highly respected and active member of the local congregation.

The departed brother had enjoyed good health until about three years ago. On March 29, 1934, he became seriously ill and has since been confined to his bed. He died August 10, 1934. The cause of his death, besides the usual infirmities of old age, was hardening of the arteries.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. O.C. Myhre at the home at 1 o'clock, and at the Rock Creek Lutheran church at 2 o'clock.

Interment was made in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery.
