Patrick “Jerry” Stickney

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Patrick "Jerry" Stickney, 78, of Nora Springs, died Sunday, November 9, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Patrick was born on March 16, 1936, in Mason City, the son of Jess T. Stickney Sr. and Louise Abatte. Patrick excelled in high school sports, especially football, earning a scholarship to Upper Iowa University.

On June 11, 1957, Patrick eloped to Algona with his childhood sweetheart Bonnie Dickson. They said it wouldn't last, but last June they celebrated 57 years together. He was a good husband who loved his wife, daughters, and grandsons. He had a way with children of friends — they all loved him.

Patrick loved to hunt in Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, and Alaska. He even acquired a trophy Alaskan brown bear. He had a host of friends to swap hunting stories with. He liked to play poker, and always looked forward to Dianna and Spencer coming over to "try" and take his money.

Left to cherish his memories is his wife, Bonnie (Dickson) Stickney of Nora Springs, two daughters, Kathi Rasmus of Mason City, and Susan Snow of Nora Springs, two grandsons, Andrew Rasmus and fiancée Nicole of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Tanner Snow of Nora Springs, two sisters, Clara (Walt) Ingalls of Moses Lake, Washington, and Dianna (Spencer) Weaver of Northwood, a special nephew, PJ Orluske who was always available, and many other nieces nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess T and Louise Stickney, a brother, Jess Stickney Jr. and two sisters, Darlene Shaw and Dixie Cain.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
