Eugene "Gene" Charles Krieger was born on June 5, 1928, in Cresco, Iowa to Charles and Pearl (Hyberger) Krieger. He lived in Cresco until the 6th grade when the family moved to Charles City, Iowa where his dad was employed as a mechanic with the Iowa State Highway Commission. Gene graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1945. He attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City, Iowa until he completed all the available accounting courses and soon thereafter, he went to work in the Accounting Department of the Oliver tractor plant in Charles City in 1946. On August 16, 1948, Gene married Lorraine Mae LaBounty at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, where they lived together for the rest of his life, raising three sons and three daughters.

Gene remained employed at the Oliver/White Farm Equipment plant for his entire adult career, not retiring until the plant closed in 1993. In his career of 47 years, at one time or another he worked in and eventually supervised every function in the Accounting Department. Working literally until the doors were closed, at that time he was the second longest-serving employee in the plant. Gene and Lorraine loved to vacation visiting kids and grandkids in Pensacola, Florida. When Gene retired, this became a winter retreat for several months every year. Gene was an avid and expert card player, particularly cribbage and euchre. He and Lorraine also enjoyed day trips and monthly bus trips to casinos.

Living family members include Lorraine, his wife of 66 years; children: Tom (Joy) of Nashua, Mike (Angie) of Pensacola, Florida, Dave (Kathy) and Lori (Tom) Eckenrod all of Charles City, and Linda Kahl and Jan (Terry) Bass all of Pensacola, Florida; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Imelda) of Mason City; sister-in-law, Beverly Krieger of Charles City; along with other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Pearl; and his brother, Dale.

The family deeply appreciates the care and comfort provided to Gene by the staff of Cedar Health, Hospice of North Iowa and Floyd County Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
