CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Lee Stewart, 89, of Charles City, died Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. Pastor Martha Bennett will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery at Floyd. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City.

Lee Lawrence Stewart was born March 3, 1925, at Floyd, the son of Lloyd and Hazel (Raymond) Stewart. He graduated from Floyd High School. Lee proudly served in the United States Navy as a Pharmacist’s Mate during World War II.

On April 15, 1945, he was united in marriage to Alice Anderson at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. They farmed for 40 years near Floyd on the Anderson Century farm. When he started farming he was using horses and two row planters.

Lee also sold Pioneer seed corn for several years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he had taught Sunday School and held various offices. Other activities included the Floyd County Farm Bureau, helped to organize the Shell Rock Valley Little League, township trustee and had served as a Floyd County Supervisor and the Charles City Community School Board for 12 years.

Lee enjoyed fishing, playing cards with the 500 Card Club and harvesting various fruits and vegetables which he would bring home to Alice for canning or freezing. Children always played a special part in his life and he took pleasure in being a part of their lives. He will be remembered for being a great fun loving jokester who took every opportunity to give anyone a hard time.

Living family members include his wife, Alice of Charles City; three children, Dan (Terry) Stewart of Hampton, Connie (Al) Mace of Prior Lake, Minnesota and Carolyn (Jon) Ford of Mesa, Arizona; son-in-law, Lyle Slagle of Grimes; nine grandchildren, Jon (Barbara) Ford, Sara (Erik) Rasmussen, Christine (Jason) Watson, Jamie Ford, Jason Slagle, Andrew (Sara) Slagle, Blake Stewart, Bryon (Jody) Mace and Jeff (Heidi) Mace; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry (Donna) Stewart of Charles City; sisters-in-law, Leah Platt of Boise, Idaho, Jane (Charles) Dight of Rockford, Fae (Richard) Laird of Webster City and Audrey Stewart of Treynor; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cynthia Slagle; brothers, Raymond, George and Eugene Stewart, and sisters, Harriett Elfers and Joyce Wilcox.
