CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Florian "Jim" Fred Gerleman, 77, of Charles City, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Gary Mayer will celebrate the Mass.

Inurnment will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

There will be a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Social Hall at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where the Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. and a Prayer Service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday morning an hour prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Friends of Cancer in care of First Citizens National Bank.

Florian "Jim" Fred Gerleman, 77, of Charles City, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Jim Gerleman will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Gary Mayer will celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Florian Fred Gerleman was born September 4, 1937, in Fayette County, the son of Alois and Rose (Tillman) Gerleman. He received his education at St. Lucas. Jim proudly served in the United States Army. On October 19, 1963, he was united in marriage to Marlys Ash. Jim worked for Oliver/White Farm Equipment Company for over 30 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters and Moose Lodge. Jim looked forward to cutting firewood at the farm near St. Lucas, fishing, playing cards and taking an occasional trip to the casino. He will be remembered for his cooking abilities, in particular the popcorn balls and jams and jellies made from the berries that he picked.

Living family members include his wife, Marlys Gerleman of Charles City; four children, Diane (Todd) Lentz of Alta Vista, Michael Gerleman of Harlingen, Texas, Kelly Gerleman of St. Paul, Minn. and James (Hannah) Gerleman of Des Moines; eight grandchildren, Zachary (Brittney) Wilson, Travis (Dana) Lentz, Nathan Lentz, Kimberly (Nathan Jacobson) Burnett, Brent Gerleman, Tyler Gerleman, Abigail Gerleman and Sullivan Florian Gerleman; two great-grandchildren, Brianna Wilson and Trevor Lentz; and two sisters-in-law, Leona Gerleman of Ossian and Grace Gerleman of St. Lucas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by five brothers: Hugo, Edmund, Virgil, Mathias and Reverend Laverne Gerleman; and two sisters, Thecla Lechtenberg and Agnes Galligan.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Friends of Cancer in care of First Citizens National Bank.
