CHARLES CITY, IOWA - George Haberman, 86, of Charles City, died Sunday, May 15, 2005, at Port Charles Assisted Living, Charles City.

He was born on November 27, 1918, in Kensett, son of George and Mary Kappes Haberman. He married Jane E. Berkshire on May 2, 1943, in Augusta, Georgia. She died on February 1, 1988.

Mr. Haberman was a 1937 graduate of Elma High School, then served in the U.S. Army in France. He owned Haberman Sundries, Tama, from 1949 until retiring in 1973.

Survivors include two sons, Earl (Beverly) of Dubuque and Ken (Joyce) of Nashua; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marie Otto and Betty Johnson, both of Omaha, Nebraska.

Preceded in death by four brothers, Ervin, Edward, Melvin and Archie.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Nashua, with burial in North Hill Cemetery, rural Wayland, with military rites. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until services Wednesday at the funeral home.
