CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Jane Loftus, 79, of Charles City died Friday, October 3, 2014, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Jane Loftus will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 7, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Gary Mayer will celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at the Hauser Funeral Home, where a prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Tuesday.

Jane Loftus, 79, of Charles City, died Friday, October 3, 2014, surrounded by her loving family at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Jane Loftus will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Gary Mayer will celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2014, where a prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Tuesday.

Jane Luann Loftus, the daughter of Louis and Ida "Dode" (Ryan) McTaggart, was born March 19, 1935 in Waterloo, Iowa. She grew up for a few years in Chicago before her family moved to Elkader, Iowa. Jane attended school in Elkader and graduated from Elkader High School in 1953. After graduation, she worked at the Clayton County Courthouse.

Jane was united in marriage to John Francis Loftus on December 2, 1961. The couple made their home in Carroll, Iowa before moving to Charles City in 1963 where they continued to raise their family. Jane was a homemaker, taking care of her children, and had a daycare at her home for several years. She was very involved with her children and their activities growing up, volunteering countless hours to help where needed.

Jane was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she was involved in St. Theresa Circle and volunteered at the gift shop. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, numerous bridge clubs and loved getting together with her friends to have coffee and social time. Jane was an avid gardener who would can and freeze, with help from her children, a lot of the produce the garden supplied. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Living family members include her children: Kathleen (James) Potter of Milton, Mass., Cortney (William) Taylor of Hull, Mass., Michael (Sherry) Loftus of Charles City and Patrick (Ann) Loftus of Marion; and 11 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John Francis Loftus on April 23, 2014.
