CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Robert “Verne” Fish, 92, of Charles City, died Thursday, September 25, 2014, at Apple Valley Assisted Living in Charles City.

Funeral services for Verne Fish will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the First Congregational Church. Pastor Forrest Cornelius will officiate.

Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Greene. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday and at the church on Monday an hour prior to the service.

Robert LaVerne Fish was born November 14, 1921, at Alden, the son of Byron and Letha (Bisbee) Fish. He graduated in 1939 from Alden High School in Alden. Verne proudly served in the United States Army during World War II.

On February 7, 1948, he was united in marriage to Eva Hardy at Greene. To this union three children were born. Eva died on May 26, 1987. Verne married Virginia Hardy Franke on September 17, 1990, at St. Louis, Missouri. Virginia died on August 28, 2008.

Verne farmed all his life near Marble Rock. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and the American Legion.

His interests included golfing, hunting and fishing. Verne always took special interest in his family and enjoyed sharing life’s experiences with them.

Living family members include three children: Beverly Fish of Rochester, Minnesota, James (Dawn) Fish of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, and Roger (Janele) Fish of Eldora; three grandchildren: Brent (Amanda) Lloyd, Melissa (James) McGregor and Jason (Meghan) Lloyd; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Downing of Waverly; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives; and two brothers, Merle and Leo Fish.
