Louis V. Koenigsfeld, 80, of Clear Lake, died Monday, September 8, 2014, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

A funeral Mass for Louis Koenigsfeld will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Reverend Gary Mayer will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, September 14, 2014, where a Scripture Service will begin at 4 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass on Monday at the church.

Louis Victor Koenigsfeld was born on December 3, 1933 in Marble Rock, Iowa, to John and Mildred (Osier) Koenigsfeld. He received his elementary education in several rural schools. Louis then attended a Catholic seminary, the Pontifical College Josephinum, in Worthington, Ohio, and graduated high school from that institution. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.

Louis served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. On December 29, 1956, he was united in marriage to Ruth Cook at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, Iowa. To this marriage were born eight children. He then married Barbara Wood on September 29, 2007 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, Iowa.

After his military service was completed, he worked for the Sherwin-Williams Company and the Dr. Salsbury Company. Louis then taught at Immaculate Conception High School in Charles City for seven years, Columbus High School in Waterloo for two years and at the Charles City Senior High School for twenty-five years. His duties included teaching as well as coaching baseball and basketball. He was a charter member of the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association and was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame of that organization.

Louis was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Heritage Club, Sunrisers Kiwanis, Charles City Community Education Association, Iowa State Education Association and the National Education Association. Louis loved playing and watching sports, but especially enjoyed coaching and helping young people.

Louis was an avid fan of his Comet teams, the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved playing fast pitch softball and played for a number of quality teams: Dr. Salsbury and two state champion teams: Larry Lange Ford and Butt'r Topp. Louis was also a member of the River City Softball Hall of Fame. His coaching career covered 36 years. Louis was especially proud of the baseball field at Sportsman's Park in Charles City, which he helped build and which bears his name.

Living family members include his wife Barbara of Clear Lake, Iowa; five daughters and their husbands: Denise (Ken) Duncan of Land "O" Lakes, Florida, Karla (Steve) Bass of Osage, Iowa, Lisa (Toga) Hertzog of Port Angeles, Washington, LuAnn (Charles) Scott of Coconut Creek, Florida and Debra (Corey) Rhoads of Grimes, Iowa; three sons and their wives: Ronald (Lori) Koenigsfeld of Mesa, Arizona, Randall (Terri) Koenigsfeld of New Port Richey, Florida, and Kurt (Holly) Koenigsfeld of Papillion, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren; three sisters: Lois Clark of Charles City, Iowa; Agnes (Ken) Sullivan of Swisher, Iowa and Anna Mae (Wayne) Stratton of Charles City, Iowa; five brothers: Kenneth (Barbara) Koenigsfeld of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Francis "Butch" (Nancy) Koenigsfeld of Floyd, Iowa, Leland (Sandi) Koenigsfeld of Union, Missouri, Russell (Joanie) Koenigsfeld of Robins, Iowa, and Dennis Koenigsfeld of Des Moines, Iowa; three step-sons: Steven Wood of Meridian, Idaho, Keith (Leslie) Wood of Mason City, Iowa and David (Shannon) Wood of Robins, Iowa; nine step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ruth on November 23, 2001.
