George Winner, retired painter, dies at 77

CHARLES CITY – Funeral services were held Friday at the Grossmann-Hage Funeral home for George Albert Winner, 77. A resident of Charles City the last 15 years, he died Wednesday night at the Charles City Nursing Home. Death was attributed to Hodgkin Disease. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.

He was born near Clarksville, Aug. 24, 1883. H was married to Martha E. Bailey and was a retired painter.

Survivors include a son, John Winner, Tacoma, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Floyd Schanfeld, Alta Vista; Mrs. Rufus Joeger, LaSalle, Ill.; Georgia Winner, Charles City, and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother.
