Mrs. Permelia H. Scott, of heart trouble,
aged 65 years, 11 months, 9 days.

The grim reaper has gathered another ripe sheaf from the ranks of the pioneers of our country. Mrs. Scott had been a resident of Floyd county for nearly 40 years, coming here with her husband in 1855 and settling on a farm near this place. Six years later they came to Charles City, which has since been her home.

The deceased, whose maiden name was Permelia Hair, was born in Utica, Ohio, on September 1, 1828. She became the wife of Sanford S. Scott at Utica in March 1847 and ten children blessed this marriage -- only four of whom are now living: Mrs. Mary Harvey and J.C. Frank and Clyde Scott, all of this city, who with the husband are left to mourn her loss.

Mrs. Scott had been an invalid the past eight months, suffering from severe attacks of heart trouble. She was a member of the Christian Church for many years and was a good useful Christian lady, a true friend, a kind mother, a loving wife, and died regretted by all who knew her. The esteem of which Mrs. Scott was held by her friends was evidenced by the profusion of beautiful floral tributes which covered the casket and tables.

The funeral was held from the family residences Friday at 4:30 conducted by Rev. H. M. Herrick, who spoke words of comfort to the sorrowing friends taking as his text, Rev. VII:14. The beautiful hymns "Rest Weary Soul," and "We Shall Meet With Our Loved Ones Again", were fittingly rendered by the choir at the beginning and the close of the service. She was laid to rest in beautiful Riverside cemetery to await the final awakening.
