OBITUARY

Karene Amelia Conner was born in Goveneur, N.Y., July 30, 1847 and died at her home in Marble Rock May 5, 1917.

She was united in marriage to John Stewart, April 26, 1866. About four years later they came west to Nashua, Iowa, that being as far as the railroad ran at that time. They lived there about three years and then came to Cerro Gordo county where they lived on a farm until 1901 when Mr. Stewart's health failed and they then moved to Marble Rock. The loved companion departed this life April 26, 1902* on the anniversary of their marriage. To this union ten children were born nine of whom died in infancy; the one remaining Mrs. Minnie Knesel and one grandson Dalton Knesel are left to mourn the loss of this loved one.

Mrs. Stewart has been a faithful follower and worker for her Master since early womanhood, interested in and supporting in all of the movements for the uplift of those around her. She was a zealous worker in the W. R. C. and also a member of the Yeomen and Rebekah lodges.

Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church Sunday after noon by the pastor, Rev. Ashley S. Farnham, assisted by Rev. V.C. Kelford of the Baptist church and the body laid to rest in the Eastside cemetery by the side of her departed loved ones.

*NOTE: The year of her husband's death is listed incorrectly in her obituary. He died in 1892 not 1902. His tombstone has his death year as 1892 on it and Karene is listed as a widow in the 1900 Federal Census.
