ROCKFORD, IOWA - Sheryl Cannon, 70, of Rockford, died Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at the Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Rockford with Pastor Jim Beranek officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Rockford.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Rockford, and an hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Sheryl Rae Scholl Cannon was born January 11, 1944, at Charles City, the daughter of Orville and Alta (Evans) Scholl. She grew up in Rockford, spending several summers with her grandparents in Plymouth. Sheryl graduated in 1962 from Rockford High School.

On March 15, 1962, she was united in marriage to Joe Cannon at Freeport, Illinois. In the early years of their marriage they moved to rural Rockford where they would farm for the next 52 years. Sheryl also worked for a number of years at Bowens Food Center in Rockford. Both Sheryl and Joe worked together maintaining Riverside Cemetery at Rockford. Her interests included genealogy, reading and gardening.

Living family members include her husband, Joe Cannon of Rockford; son, Joel (Theresa) Cannon of Rockford; daughter, Vicky (Leon) Marker of Rockford; grandchildren, Cory and Curtis Marker and Stephanie Cannon; siblings, William (Kaye) Scholl of Carlisle, Gilda (Brian) Olson of Vinton, and Roy Greenland of Cedar Falls; sister-in-law, Barb (Dale) Oakland of Brownsdale, Minnesota, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; stepfathers, Lee Greenland and Verner Sorensen; stepmother, Jean Scholl; brother, Gary Scholl; and a nephew, Matthew Scholl.
