James William Ott was born October 11, 1955, at Charles City, the son of James and Louise (deBuhr) Ott, the first of four sons. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. Jim graduated in 1973 from Rudd Rockford Marble Rock School. For a short time he worked at White Farm Equipment Company before starting to farm with his dad and Uncle Larry. He raised pigs for many years.

On August 27, 1977, he was united in marriage to Stacey Pitkin. For 37 years they have lived on the same farm. They were blessed with three children; Paul, Gary and Karen. Jim was proud of his kids. He liked to be in touch with them every day. They knew he'd give his opinion of how he'd do things. "See what I'm Saying?" or he might ask how the oil was in their vehicle. They knew dad was a hard worker and he expected everyone to be like that. Jim was a farmer. He could talk about it all the time. He enjoyed checking on the crops every day. Jim worked beside his dad and Uncle Larry for many years. Later they were joined by Mark, Todd, Jeff, son Paul, Ross and since his illness he had asked son Gary to help farm as well.

Jim and Stacey liked to take road trips. They especially liked to travel the back roads of Iowa, checking out the countryside and looking for a new place to eat. Many Sunday evenings he would be at the car races with Don. They could talk farming and enjoy the races. Jim looked forward to the sound of his two grandkids running in the door and saying "hi".

Blowing kisses to you Grandpa!
