MASON CITY, IOWA - Charles E. Weaver Sr., 73, of Mason City, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Chaplain Janet Dorenkamp of Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa officiating.

A time to share stories and greet Chuck’s family will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home.

Inurnment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Chuck’s name to the Salvation Army Adult Day Health Center, Attn: Carol, 747 Village Green Drive, Mason City, IA 50401 or the donor’s choice.

Chuck was born May 21, 1941, in Cartersville, Iowa, the son of Margaret A. Hamond and Francis J. Weaver, Sr. He started school in a one room school house before moving to Mason City. His love of family kept Chuck returning to Minnesota and helping his parents at Weaver's Park Point Resort on Lake Kabetogama every summer from 1955-1964. Chuck was a 1959 graduate of Mason City High School. In 1963, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from 1963-1965, being stationed in Korea Camp Red Cloud 55 MP Military Police Sec. 4th Class. Following his honorable discharge from the service, Chuck returned to Mason City where he worked for a short time at American Crystal Sugar. Chuck married LeAnn Sorbo on March 26, 1978 in Mason City. In 1966, Chuck became employed with Lehigh Portland Cement Plant until being injured on the job in 1986. Chuck loved trout fishing with his brother Butch. He also loved wood working projects and camping.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 36 years, LeAnn Weaver of Mason City; two sons, Charles "Charlie" E. Weaver, Jr. of Eugene, Ore., and Chad M. Weaver of Mason City; one sister, Mary (Robert) Quam of Plymouth, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Jane Weaver, of Mason City, and two brothers-in-law, David (Sandie) Sorbo of Clinton, Mo., and John (Charlene) Sorbo of Holmen, Wis. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Francis "Butch" Weaver Jr., a nephew, David Quam and extended family.
