CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Mary K. Below, 71, of Charles City, died Friday, July 25, 2014, at Living Center East in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. The Rev. Gary Mayer will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2014, where a Scripture Service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday.

Mary Katherine (Basel) Below was born August 15, 1942, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the daughter of Donald and Justina (Koenigs) Basel. She graduated from Oshkosh High School and furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh where she majored in Library Science and minored in Chemistry.
On September 4, 1965, she married David Below at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Oshkosh. Over the years she worked at Salsbury Laboratories, at her home raising her family, the Charles City Public Library, at Al Koenigsfeld Insurance as a secretary and at Cambrex as a quality assurance laboratory technician.
Mary was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she was involved in St. Rose Circle, Sacred Heart Guild, Rosary Society, taking communion to the home bound and BeFriender Ministry. She also enjoyed Women's Club and Red Hat Society.
She volunteered at Immaculate Conception School Library, was a Foster Grandparent in Charles City for 3 ½ years, taught swimming lessons at the YMCA and enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, cooking and canning. Mary loved spending time with her family, especially cheering for her grandchildren at all of their extracurricular activities.
Living family members include three sons: Paul Below of Cedar Rapids, John (Cherie) Below of Rosendale, Wisconsin and Tom (Stacey) Below of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters: Susan (Richard) Knobloch and Janice (Tim) Horejs all of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; along with nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David on June 2, 2014; and brother, James Basel.
