CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Walter Fluhrer, 90, of Charles City died Friday, July 4, 2014, at Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Walter Fluhrer will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Bethany Alliance Church. Pastor Bill McLeland will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

The family will greet friends at the church an hour prior to the service.

The Hauser Funeral Home, 641-228-2323, in Charles City is in charge of arrangements.

Walter Fluhrer, 90, of Charles City, died Friday, July 4, 2014, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Walter Fluhrer will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Alliance Church. Pastor Bill McLeland will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

The family will greet friends at the church an hour prior to the service.

Walter Arthur Fluhrer was born September 21, 1923, at Charles City, the son of Arthur and Clara (Klamp) Fluhrer. He graduated as valedictorian from Charles City High School. On June 5, 1955, he was united in marriage to Coleen Woolworth. Walter farmed all his life on the family farm west of Charles City.

He was a member of Bethany Alliance Church and served through the years as a children's and youth leader. Every Sunday morning Walter greeted everyone who came through the door by name. He was also a member of the local chapter of Gideon International. Walter enjoyed vegetable gardening, canning and the Logos Bible software on his computer. His strong faith in Jesus Christ will always be remembered as he lived his life for the Lord, and prayed daily for the people and ministries of the church.

Living family members are cousins including Bill (Pat) Fluhrer of Charles City, Galen (Char) Greenzweig of Charles City and Betty Duesenberg of Charles City; sister-in-law, Anna Mae Woolworth of Charles City; step sister-in-law, Alice Abbott of Ridgeway; and many other cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Coleen on January 31, 2000.
