ROCKFORD, IOWA - Merrill John Cook, 78, of Brainerd, Minnesota, and formerly of Rockford, went home to his Savior after a battle with cancer on Sunday, June 29, 2014.

A graveside service for Merrill will be held at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Merrill John Cook was born on Jan. 6, 1936, in Rockford, the son of John Herman and Esther Lewine (Fletcher) Cook. He attended Rockford Community Schools, and during his life he was a self-employed painter by trade for 25 years.

Left to cherish his memory is his son, LauRon Cook; sister, Donna (Frank) Markle; brother, Robert “Bob” (Becki) Cook; sister-in-law, Ruth Cook; as well as extended family members and friends.

Merrill was preceded in death by his parents; a son at birth, and a brother, Lyle R. Cook.
