CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Kenneth “Kenny” Stratton, 95, of Charles City, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and at the church on Monday an hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Friends of Cancer or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Kenneth "Kenny" Stratton, 95, of Charles City, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Kenneth Earl Stratton was born May 3, 1919, at Colwell, the son of Earl and Rose (Cross) Stratton. He graduated from Colwell High School. Kenny proudly served in the United States Army during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.

On May 22, 1960, he was united in marriage to Marva Wedeking. In his early years he worked for Standard Oil and then for 27 years for the United States Post Office. Kenny was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, American Legion, 55 year member of the Elks Lodge, and lifelong member of the V.F.W. and Moose Lodge.

His interests included music for which he will be remembered for playing the saxophone and harmonica; golfing; woodworking; and fishing in Minnesota, Canada and on the Mississippi. Family was always very important to Kenny and he looked forward to sharing life's experiences with each one.

Living family members include two children, Wayne (Anna Mae) Stratton of Charles City and Brenda (Bradford) Bailey of Floyd; six grandchildren, Ryan (Joy) Bailey, Eric Bailey, Katherine Bailey, Jeffrey (Lisa) Stratton, Joseph (Sami) Stratton and Jerald (Melissa) Stratton; eight great grandchildren, Tyler Haroldson, Tanner, Jessica, Abby, Kaylie, Cody, Shelby and Chase Stratton; and a great grandson, Maverick Haroldson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marva on March 22, 2013; a grandson, James Stratton and a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Stratton.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Friends of Cancer or a charity of donor's choice.
