NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Barbara K. "Barb" Mahnesmith, 56, of Nora Springs died Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Barbara K. Mahnesmith

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Barbara K. "Barb" Mahnesmith, 56, of Nora Springs, died on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family.

Barb's family will greet friends and relatives from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the Nora Springs Lions Community Center, 16 S. Summit Ave., Nora Springs.

A Celebration of Life service will begin at 3 p.m. Inurnment will be in the Rock Grove Cemetery, rural Nora Springs.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Barb's name in care of her family at 210 8th St. S.E., Mason City, Iowa, 50401.

Barbara Kaye Paine was born on June 15, 1957, the 3rd of 5 daughters born unto Roy and Shirley (Steinlicht) Paine. She grew up in Nora Springs and has resided there since.

On March 7, 1977, she married Loren Mahnesmith.

Barb was a very hard worker and throughout the years wore many hats ranging from "Pizza Queen" at Casey's, EMT, maintenance, and "Jack of all Trades." She was most proud of her construction career at Adjustable Joist Construction where she helped build a portion of Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Some of her most treasured times were "thrift shopping" with her daughter, Mindy, playing practical jokes on her son, Mitch, gambling and going to garage sales with her daughter, Michele, and fishing with her husband, Loren.

Those left to live on through her legacy are her husband, Loren; children, Michele (Kelly) Hert, Mitch (Amber) Mahnesmith, and Mindy (Shelby) Mahnesmith; grandsons, Uriah and Ian Strange; sisters, Cindy (Jerry) Rasmus, Julie (Dave) Underriner, and Susan (Scott) Wilde; her special sister-in-law, Lynette (DuWayne) Paulsen; stepfather, Duane Holmes; many nieces and nephews and amazing friends. Barb was known as "Grandma Barbie" to Hannah and Hailee Kofoot.

Those preceding her in death are her parents; mother-in-law, Bev Luttrell; sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Dennis Nehls; special friends, Marcene; her beloved dogs, Chewy and Raja; and special nephew, Todd Brierly.
