Edna was born September 17, 1920, in Floyd County, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Anna Marie (Litterer) Vetter. She was the second oldest of seven children. On March 16, 1947, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, rural Nashua, she married Donald Eugene Speicher. The couple raised their four children in the Fredericksburg area. They took great pride in their grandchildren and treasured their visits to the family farm to explore the world of open fields, creeks, haymows, animals, tractors, fresh baked donuts, and the endless cookie jar.

Edna passed to her family a sense of deep family commitment, faithful love, dignity of all people, hard work attitude, value of life long friendships, love of reading, and faith based values. Her green thumb abilities and determination was evident each year in the magnificent floral and vegetable gardens. The enjoyment of sharing plant clippings and roots with others magnified her love and joy of growing and nurturing plants. Edna’s raised donuts are a legend in the family and the community.
