CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Elmer Tupy, 85, of Charles City, died Friday, May 30, 2014, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Carl Ries will officiate.

Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the beginning of the funeral Mass at the church on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Elmer Tupy Memorial.

Elmer Tupy, 85, of Charles City, died Friday, May 30, 2014, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Elmer Francis Tupy, the son of Francis and Caroline (Karnik) Tupy, was born October 23, 1928, in Protivin, Iowa. He attended Catholic School in Fort Atkinson and began working at a very young age. Elmer drove a milk truck for a few years, worked several odd jobs for local farmers, labored at a steel mill in Illinois and moved to Charles City to work at White Farm for 30 years. Elmer was drafted into the Army in 1952, and he proudly served his country for two years before he was honorably discharged.

On June 13, 1953, Elmer was united in marriage to Pauline Taylor in San Francisco, California. The couple made their home in Charles City where they raised their family.

Elmer was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, Catholic Foresters and the Moose Lodge. He was a very good carpenter, enjoyed woodworking, camping, hunting and fishing. Elmer was all about being a family man and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Living family members include his wife of 61 years, Pauline of Charles City; three children: Patricia "Pat" (Richard) Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Annette (James) Tupy of Floyd and Francis "Frank" (Carol) Tupy of Tulsa, Oklahoma; six grandchildren: Caroline and Julia Smith, McKayla, Brody, Isaac and Johnathon Tupy; siblings: Joseph (Betty) Tupy of Illinois, Donna (Ronald) Bodensteiner of West Union, Paul (Phyllis) Tupy of West Virginia and Carolyn (John) Bodensteiner of Arkansas; along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mary Kleve; brother Norbert Tupy; and three siblings in infancy.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Elmer Tupy Memorial.
