BURR WITTER PASSES AWAY

The community was shocked Tuesday morning when word reached here stating that Burr Witter, son of the late Willis Witter of this place took his own life by shooting Monday evening. The tragedy took place at his farm east of town, about ten o'clock. Mr. Witter had left the house and immediately after his wife heard the shot. The lifeless body was found in the yard behind one of the outbuildings. Mr. Witter leaves a wife and two children, five sisters; Mrs. Lockwood of South Dakota, Mrs. Alex Koop of this place. Mrs. D. Grace Williams of Blencoe, Iowa, and Mrs. Delia Clay of Rolla, Mo. Ill health and financial troubles were the cause of the sad act. Mrs. Witter was formerly Miss Carrie Stoner of Marble Rock. Their many friends extend to the bereaved relatives, their heart felt sympathy. The funeral will be held tomorrow - Thursday.

BURR BLANCHARD WITTER

Burr Blanchard Witter was born near Marble Rock, Iowa, July 21st 1884 and died June 13th, 1921 at the age of 36 years, 10 months, 22 days. On December 5th, 1911 he was united in marriage to Carrie M. Stoner. To this union four children were born, two having passed away in infancy, Alice Marion at the age of two years and Garlen Wibur but four days. Those left to mourn the untimely death of a kind husband and father are the faithful wife, the little daughter, Liela Mae, age 9 years, the son, Earl Laverne, 6 years.

Burr Witter was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Witter, his five sisters, who feel his death are Mrs. Dora Knoop of Marble Rock, Mrs. Lockwood of Winfred. S.D., Mrs. Daena Hoyman, of Toledo, Ia., Mrs. Williams of Blencoe, Ia., and Mrs. Lloyd Clay of Rolla, Mo., besides many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Witter has not been in good health for some time, and a few weeks ago he met with a severe injury to his head from which he did not fully recover. Burr Witter has ever had the sympathy of all who knew him, having lost his best friend, his mother, when but a child, and never being physically strong.

The funeral was held at the home east of town Thursday afternoon and was in charge of Rev. G.W. McConkey. Selection were sung by Mesdames Mary Barber and Patricia Bredt. Interment was in the Hillside cemetery.

The many Marble Rock friends of the bereaved ones extend their heart-felt sympathy.
