NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - David L. Crowe, 66, of Nora Springs, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

A funeral service for David will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Nora Springs American Legion H.D.S. Post 449.

A visitation with a public viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the funeral home and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left in David’s name in care of his family.

David L. Crowe, 66, of Nora Springs, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014 as a result of a motorcycle accident. Heaven gained an angel, crooked halo and all.

A funeral service for David will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Avenue, Nora Springs with the Reverend Dennis Ganz officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Nora Springs American Legion H.D.S. Post 449.

A visitation with a public viewing will be held from 5 to 7pm, Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the funeral home and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

David decided years ago that he wanted to be an organ donor so he will live on in many lives through his generous gift.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left in David’s name in care of his family.
David Lee Crowe, son of Winfred and Marie (Turner) Crowe, was born March 13, 1948 in Waterloo, Iowa. At the age of 19, David enlisted in the United States Marines and served his country faithfully in Vietnam before being honorably discharged.

On March 2, 1971, he was united in marriage to Nancy Davisson at the Central Christian Church in Waterloo. To this union, they were bless with three children: Kim, Kevin, and Keith.

David was a wonderful grandfather to his seven grandchildren and will be missed dearly. He spent as much time with them as he could and made each one feel special. There were not many sporting events that he missed. There were many hunting and fishing trips, cook outs and bon fires. The one hobby that he loved the most was riding his motorcycle. Nobody ever knew when he would show up on his motorcycle, whether it be down the street or other parts of the country.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nancy Crowe of Nora Springs; children: Kim (Jeff) Haley of Eldora, Iowa, Kevin (Hope) Crowe of Osage, and Keith (Ciera) Crowe of Rockford; grandchildren: Cody and Colton Haley, Lucas Kleckner, Riley and Matthew Crowe and Keaton and Kylie Crowe; brother, Gerald (Annette) Crowe, Waterloo; sisters, Diann (Dick) Fischels of Waterloo and Shirley (Bill) Rogers, Stout, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Janice Crow of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Mary Ann Crowe of Waterloo, Iowa; brother-in-law Larry (Catherine) Davisson of Palo, Iowa, along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends that held a special place in David’s heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Dean, Eugene, and Dick Crowe, and sister, Doris Bender.

Fatal accident in north Iowa

FLOYD COUNTY, Iowa – One person has died on site in a crash Wednesday afternoon.

David Crowe, 66, of Nora Springs was driving his Harley eastbound on Highway 18 when he slowed to make a right hand turn on Dancer Avenue, when Stephanie Mercer, 23, of Charles City struck him with her Envoy. She was also traveling east.

Crowe was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene. Mercer was not hurt.

This accident remains under investigation by Iowa State Patrol. The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, Mason City Fire and Ambulance, and Nora Springs Fire Department assisted.
