William E. Stanley (1947-2014)

WAVERLY, IOWA -- William E. Stanley, 66, of Waverly, died at home Friday, January 10, 2014 of heart failure.

He was born July 29, 1947, in Charles City, son of James E. and Mary Annee Tracy Stanley. He married Sandy Hall on February 6, 1971, in Nashua.

Mr. Stanley graduated from Nashua High School in 1966 and later attended NIACC in Mason City. Following high school, he served in the Naval Reserves, serving in the Midway Islands. He worked with the Highway Commission and later as a field tile sales representative for Sheffield Brick and Tile. He retired in 2008, after 30 years of service with the Bremer and Fayette County Soil Conservation, where he was worked as a soil technician.

Survived by: his wife; a son, Mark of Seattle; a daughter, Kim (Matt) Cox of Shell Rock; and two sisters, Janice (Keith) Cresswell of Waterloo and Lori (Doug) Wright of Rochester, Minn.

Preceded in death by: his parents; and an infant sister, Margaret.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials in lieu of flowers: may be directed to the Bremer County Conservation Board in Bill’s memory.

Bill loved being outdoors whether it was hunting, fishing, canoeing or archery. He also enjoyed horses and the time he spent teaching at the Bremer County Conservation Board 5th-grade outdoor education days.

He enjoyed playing a good hand of 500 and he loved to declare and Win! He will be missed by those he spent his afternoons with enjoying a cup of coffee. After Bill’s death he was a tissue donor through the Iowa Donor Network.
