GREENE, IOWA — Funeral Services for Brett Alan Ackerson, 48, of Greene will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene with Pastors Gary Hatcher and Mark Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St., Greene, and will continue one hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Brett Alan Ackerson was born in Charles City, on April 25, 1966, a son of Marvin Kay and Lorilee Jane (DeVries) Ackerson and died at his home Friday, May 16, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He received his education in public school, graduating from Charles City High School in 1985. At an early age Brett developed a solid work ethic that has carried him throughout his life.

Brett was united in marriage to Tami Sue Greenlee on April 16, 1988, at the Wesleyan Church in Charles City. This union was blessed with two children.

Brett worked for Unverferth Manufacturing, in Shell Rock, for over 20 years as a welder and toolmaker. He was a generous handyman whose skills were made available to anyone in need. Brett volunteered countless hours coaching football and basketball both for the Greene Rams and the North Butler Bearcats.

He loved country life, horses, and being a cowboy. He was an active member of The Chuckwagon Racers of Iowa-Minnesota. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed equestrian camping. Brett especially enjoyed time spent with his family on their yearly Wyoming vacations.

Living family members include his loving wife of 26 years, Tami of Greene; daughter, Kelcie Ackerson (Tyler); one son, Garrett Ackerson (Tiffany); his parents, Marvin and Lorilee Ackerson of Ionia; one sister, Michelle (Jim) Lembke of Dubuque; one brother, Stacy (Staci) Ackerson of Bassett; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Brett was preceded in death by his grandparents.
