Death: April 26, 2014Marjorie "Marge" Mitchell, 75, of Charles City, went to heaven Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services for Marge Mitchell will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Jim Carpenter will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and at the church on Wednesday an hour prior to the service.
Marjorie Carolyn Beekman Mitchell was born July 3, 1938, in Charles City, the daughter of Carl and Jennie (Schroeder) Beekman. She graduated from Nashua High School. On October 28, 1956, she was united in marriage to Robert Mitchell. Marge was employed at Salsbury Laboratories for 10 years, was proprietor of Marge's Antiques and helped in the farming operation. She was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church and Mommettes which was a young mothers association. Marge loved and enjoyed her family and friends. She adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her interests included many things with socializing, knitting, needlepoint, ceramics, dancing, playing cards and being a 4H mom at the top of the list. Marge and Bob enjoyed bowling and were for many years members of a couples league at the Comet Bowl. Marge was the first woman contestant at a Floyd County Fair tractor pull. She was famous for organizing the family events, cooking skills and Sunday dinners. She will be remembered for her love of laughter that filled every room.
Living family members include her husband, Bob Mitchell of Charles City; four children: Brenda (Dean) Holzer of Charles City, Linda Mitchell of La Jolla, California, Lorie (Dave) Davidson of Cedar Falls and Troy (Carol) Mitchell of Madison, Wisc.; eight grandchildren: Ryan (Kristi) Holzer, Kayla (Blaine) Henning, Travis Holzer and fiancée Renee Gilbert, Allison (Renato) Motoyama, Ashley (Aaron) Broshar, Amanda Davidson, Alexa Davidson and Viktor Mitchell; 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Anna Mae Bahlmann of Nashua, Doris Dana of Huntsville, Alabama, Florence McGregor of Owatonna, Minnesota. and her twin, Marilyn Pencook of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Beekman of Charles City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Carl Beekman, Jr. in infancy and Carlisle Beekman; and a sister, Madelon Groen.
In her most recent years her extended family became the caregivers and residents of the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home for which the family is grateful.
